Many people are wanting to improve their eating and other health habits, to improve their diabetes management. There is so much conflicting information, that I find people are very scared of nutrition advice. I am a dietitian and I’ve been looking for a book like this, meaningful and based on modern science and psychology. I am already recommending this book to patients, caregivers, family members, friends, relatives and co-workers. This book is based on the current view of diabetes education. It is open-minded, comprehensive and it is broken down into understandable chunks, in the form of weeks. If a reader wants to explore a concept, there is a plethora of reference material cited. It seems to hit on the questions and challenges that cause people the most concern. Man starts diet, consumes slabs of protein, begins to see some success
Attack Phase, After Seven Days: Minus 11 pounds. Felt pretty crappy until day three, then just as the good diet doctor predicted, started feeling better. No hunger or craving but getting bored with broiled chicken breast and non-fat yogurt.

Must admit I am beginning to enjoy that little morsel called a Dukan Oat Bran Galette (mini pancake made with oat bran, egg white, non-fat Greek yogurt, artificial sweetener – recipe included in book).

Cruise Phase, After One Week & One Day: Minus 16 pounds total and still going strong: I’ve chosen to do two all-protein days followed by five protein-and-vegetable days.

Worst of it is going without a beer or vodka martini at least once in awhile. Looking forward to the day when I reach Cruise Phase goal and can have alcohol again. At an estimated loss of two pounds a week during the Cruise Phase, I have at least another two months to go before having that martini. That’s a long time and a pretty big commitment to the…

I lost about 30 pounds this summer. It’s been great, I feel great and look even better, but BOY I’ve been hungry. I actually quit my diet plan about a month ago because I’m so sick of being hungry all the time.
I’ve tried a lot of appetite supressants that cost hundreds of dollars. Nine times out of ten, I might have been better off just flushing my money down the toilet. The products recommended in this book can be found in the vitamin section at your local walmart or grocery store. There are a lot of online vitamin stores as well. Another one, I’m sure you have FREE, at home already. Nice, huh?
I haven’t tried these products to control my appetite just yet, so I can’t vouch for validity, but I can say I’m happy to walk away from this book with some ideas. The book explains how hunger works (you’ll love the Gremlin!) and why these products can work!

For serious weight training
This is truly a book for women who aren’t afraid of gyms or barbells, who want to get serious about their efforts, and who want to see real results.

It’s a mix of straight sets and superset total-body workouts with emphasis on functional fitness and periodization, so it’s built around 6 basic multi-muscles moves (such as squats and deadlifts). There’s also a progession with a mix of variations to prevent workout boredom. It’s a little hard to figure out the charts at first glance, but what they’ve done is spell out every workout for you.

The workout incorporates use of a barbell, dumbbells, a step, and a stability ball (but you don’t need all of them). You can do a home workout with this book, but having a gym membership is helpful.

I like the eating plan, too. There’s not a lot of elaborate recipes, and most of it is pretty simple. It builds on plans like the Zone and other similar 30/30/40 types of diets.

The only con I have with this book…

It’s a solid book on the topic!
The first reviewer of this book, seemed to be referring to a video tape he/she had seen. She is confused. This is not a tape. It is a printed book and a very helpful one at that. I have been a Kathy Smith fan for years. I am 41 and still look like I did in my twenties thanks to Kathy’s tapes and books. I also teach weight training and yoga to teens and incorporate every thing I learn from Kathy in my lessons with my students. Kathy’s new book will be no exception. I thank you for making Kathy’s materials available at a reduced price.
